The BVSD project manager noted the fine masonry detailing and design and abundance of daylighting features.

The $12.8 million addition and renovation of Louisville Middle School included about 43,000 square feet of new exploratory studios, a full performance auditorium, main entry and administrative offices, and library and about 38,000 square feet of renovated gymnasium/cafeteria, a full-service kitchen, classrooms, and corridor upgrades. This multi-phased renovation and addition occurred with a tight construction schedule with construction occurring throughout  much of the existing building; as a result staff and many students utilized 12 modular classrooms placed on-site.

Key design terms from the Louisville Middle School student community included “gathering spaces, feelings of security and flow from indoors to outdoors.”  An inviting two story main entry forms the Commons and flows into the Cafeteria/Gym by opening overhead doors.   An overlook from the ‘student café’ connected to the second story library responds to this design concept.  An outdoor amphitheater allows for community and student performances.

Ms. Cindy Day served as the Project Manager and was the team leader for this project while at SLATERPAULL Architects, along with the Principle-in-Charge, Ms. Adele Willson. Most of the client contact was done by Ms. Day.
