Attractive Church Buildings

Attractive Church Buildings

Attractive church buildings: As a bee is attracted to flower, so to are many people attracted to some church buildings. Make your next church building inviting.

According to scientists, bees are more attracted to some flowers than others. God has made them to use their sight and sense of smell to find flowers that are better for them. (See Springer’s journal Naturwissenschaften — The Science of Nature, February 21, 2013) It is no surprise that simply radiant bold colors that are distinctive from their background are more affective at inviting bees.

Are people like bees to a flower?

What about people? Has God made us also to be attracted to certain characteristics in church buildings? To some we may be surprised to learn, God has made us more attractive to certain church building characteristics. (See Environment and Behavior 2013, “Preference and Tranquility for Houses of Worship”, by Herzog, Gray, Dunville, Hicks, and Gilson.) There are distinctive characteristics that make for attractive church buildings.

Biblical Examples:

1 Corinthians 9:19-23

Even though I am a free man with no master, I have become a slave to all people to bring many to Christ. When I was with the Jews, I lived like a Jew to bring the Jews to Christ. … When I am with the Gentiles who do not follow the Jewish law, I too live apart from that law so I can bring them to Christ. … Yes, I try to find common ground with everyone, doing everything I can to save some. I do everything to spread the Good News and share in its blessings.

Paul gives us his strategy — do whatever it takes to win those around him to Christ. Adapt to the culture to help him show God’s love to his neighbors.

For Christians seeking to invite our neighbors and allow them to hear the Good News, use attractive church buildings. Create flower-like attractive church building.
